Missile Ranges

This started one afternoon in my 'Stay Alive!' online game where I have been working out some rules.

While MSPE did a fairly good job of laying out ranges for missile weapons with varying Saving Roll difficulties based on gun type and movement, I like the simplicity of of the 7.5 rules where there are 5 levels of Saving Roll based on range.

But, I don't like the idea of a range going from 'Point Blank' to '30 Feet'. Plus, Point Blank is pretty much a sure thing in most cases. You can always rule that for some weapons, Point Blank would be a negative (for a bow maybe).

So here is my new Weapon Range chart for SA! I use Level 0 as a (10), you could also just treat it as a 'DO NOT CRITICAL FAIL'. Either way, I think adding the 'Moderate' range makes sense.

My Events for Gen Con 2013

Two of the three events I will be running this year for the 'Peryton Gamers' group are T&T events. The times and the details are listed below. If you are planning on attending Gen Con 2013 and you are willing to run at least one event, we may be able to work with Robin and Tom at Peryton Publishing to get you a free badge. We qualified last year for many that we ended up not using.

My badge is actually coming from the Auction this year, so there is some opportunity here to save you some money if we can figure out how to do it. I am willing to find out, but you have to let me know if you are willing.

Introductory game to learn how to play T&T or start a new character for the experienced delvers. Delving is a dangerous business, so buyer beware!

"Out of the Frying Pan"
Friday, August 16, 2013, 2:00 PM
The world has gone crazy as the dead have seemingly come back to attack and consume the living. You have escaped the campus and survived the night, but what about the day after?

"AGOT-02, Fire and Fury"
Thursday, August 15, 2013, 2:00 PM
Sunday, August 18, 2013, 12:00 PM
Wildling raiders have a family sword. You have to go beyond the Wall to get it. Are the stories of the mythical creatures living beyond the wall based on fact, or just stories to scare young children?

Stay Alive! Combat...Zombie Stomping

I have started two other topics for this blog. One for my stab at Miniatures rules for T&T. The other is regarding my proposed changes to Missile Ranges. Both of those are somewhere between 'initial thought' and 'nowhere near completion'.

However, I do have my first stab at Stay Alive! mass combat going on over at the 'Stay Alive!' solo adventure site. Check it out if you are interested.

And another plug for the Zombie Stomp Miniatures game Kickstarter...only a few days left.

My thoughts for Gen Con

For the past 4 or 5 years, I have been running my 'Game of Thrones' D20 campaign. The positives have been that I have had a few loyal sets of players that looks for my games each year. Also, for how popular 'Game of Thrones' currently is, there is absolutely no presence of the Green Ronin D6 RPG, so I am pretty much the only guy running AGOT as an RPG. I have 5 total adventures that I have created/run for this campaign; three of the five I feel are pretty good, the other two need some work.

Last year was the first year I ran my 'Stay Alive!' T&T Horror game. I feel it went fairly well and as I continue to build on the rules variant, it is something I want to continue running. Plus, there is not much T&T going on at Gen Con so I definitely want to keep that going.

With the impending launch and release of dT&T, I also am thinking of running a standard fantasy session of T&T. My Baru-Kesh adventure published in 'Elder Tunnels' as well as some other items I  have been working would be great to both support Peryton Publishing as well as add to the T&T presence.

Then there is the auction, where I spend most of my non-gaming time. I have been invited to work full time this year, which will pay for my room and badge, but give me much less time for gaming.

The X-Factor is my clawing desire to run a Red Dwarf themed game with Tom Loney's 'New Khazan' T&T rules as its base. This would be something totally new for me, which I should not be taking up to begin with since I have so many other fires burning currently. This will more than likely not happen, but something I want to get to in the near future.

So when all is said and done, my first obligation is money. My second is for T&T and to support Peryton Publishing. My third is to in some way continue to run AGOT...maybe on Wednesday night.

Thanks for letting me waste your time.

(d)T&T at Gen Con 2013

The first bit of cool news is that the "Peryton Gamers" have qualified to be a Premier Event Group for 2013.

Deluxe T&T may be available in time for Gen Con...so that may or may not affect some plans for running games this. This is what was run for T&T last year.

If you have any plans for running T&T at Gen Con this year, let us all know what you have planned.

Bash Con 2013 Special guest - Ken St. Andre

Through much hard work and determination from myself and Tom Loney (more Tom than me), Ken St. Andre, the creator of T&T, will be attending BASH Con in Toledo, Ohio this year. The dates for the convention are February 15-17.

And of course, thanks to Ken for braving the frigid temperatures of Northwest Ohio, leaving behind the oasis that is Arizona. Thanks also to the University of Toledo's BASH organization for making it happen.

For More information, click here. Let's get as many 'Great Lakes' trolls to attend as possible. Also, it is one of the best and low cost smaller conventions out there.

Deluxe Tunnels and Trolls Kickstarter Campaign

As was promised by the 'Fellowship of the Troll", the Kickstarter campaign for DT&T has begun. The main early bird benefit is an exclusive magnet that is only available via the KS campaign and to those who pledge within the first 7 days.

Most of the support levels seem quite reasonable regarding the basic softcover or hardcover editions. The map, dice, and magnets can be added on to your base pledge package. The PDF of the rulebook is included with most packages, which is wonderful.

The coins look great, but they are mighty expensive ($35 for 1, $90 for a set of four).

I mentioned to Ken in an email that the $250 level (which includes a signed and limited edition hardcover, all the coins, the map, and all the magnets) would be more enticing if a copy of the softcover and the dice were added to it. I do not think many will be using such a book for normal gaming. If you do the math:
  • $6 - Magnet Set
  • $90 - Coin Set
  • $60 - Hardcover ($50 as an add-on)
  • $8 - Map
This totals to $164, so the signed edition is costing an additional $86 in 'value'. Adding on the softcover ($28) and the dice ($10) would bring it a bit closer in line with the value you would be receiving in my opinion.

But then again, I am a member of Trollhalla and have plenty of books and boxed sets with Ken's doodles on them. Check it out and pledge away...link to the KS over there on the left side of this blog.
